When you fail to respect your customer by refusing to immediately and truthfully answer their questions, you'll immediately lose any customer worth having, and only come off as a slimy salesman.
This guy really is someone who knows the selling business.
I respond, "do you have a budget in mind?". If they say nothing. I say, "let me get back to you with a proposal"
I learned a different technique and school of thought from Mr. Cardone. His process was that whoever controls the conversation is whoever gives out the price. You also need to offer different options of a service or goods depending on their problems. So you tell them how much the average product would cost, and how much other options cost. Frame it around their problem. If you don't give out the price the client can get annoyed and walk away. (I've done done that at stores that don't have prices. If I don't know how much it'll cost I I won't buy it.)Also the client could say well this is nice and dandy it depends, okay well for me it's only a few bucks, then they anchor your price way low.
